London - Rasoi Vineet Bhatia

Summer 2007
Frank's view
'A very fine Indian.'

I bumped into a little Indian lady coming out of the loo, shortly after we arrived.

“I’m sorry.”  I said, squeezing past her.

“Oh, isn’t the food amazing?” She gushed.  “I’ve never eaten more wonderful food, and I’m Indian.”

That sums it up.  The food is unbelievably fabulous.

We did consider trying the gourmand menu at £75…

Scallop, chicken tikka, mushrooms, prawn, lobster, lamb and pudding…

but the camel relented to companion pressure and agreed to the sharing plate of starters, followed by fish Biryiani, duck and a lamb shank, as suggested by the waiter, to share.

The starter plate, for two, was no bargain at £36, but was both delicious and very substantial.

Following with three further dishes was too much for our non camel size appetites. The portions were large and at £26 for the Seafood Biriyani, £23 for the duck and £25 for the utterly unnecessary lamb korma, we did not find the main courses particularly overpriced.

This restaurant need not be too expensive if you do not over order.

Expect to pay at least £40 for a decent bottle of wine.

The tea selection, including Silver Needles tea, apparently “handpicked at dawn on only two mornings of the year”, is a very specialised affair.

The ambience is lovely - little rooms with tables.  The room which we were in had a Raj greenhouse style glass dome, parquet floor and subtle down lights, lovely beige table linen and attentive service.

Rasoi Vineet Bhatia has an excellent reputation which, on the evidence of our visit, is wholly justified.
