New York - Sushi Yasuda

Winter 2009

Probably the best Japanese food in NYC

All the reviews I read of Naomichi Yasuda's East Side diner raved about it as one of the best Japanese restaurants in New York. But the reviews all dated back to 2000/2001, with the exception of Zagat's award as 'Best Japanese in New York' 2006. Three years on, would the accolades still be warranted?

The answer is a definte 'Yes'.

Like so many of the best Japanese restaurants, the emphasis is on the food, not the decor. Indeed the light wood panelled walls and matching tables could be found in any one of a multitude of sushi / sashimi joints around the world.

It's not just the decor which is understated. A few minutes walk east of Grand Central, Sushi Yasuda is certainly not competing for the uptown lunching ladies market. This restaurant is ferreted out by foraging Japanese cuisine lovers who crave a place at Naomichi's sushi bar....and that is the place to sit.

The chefs create fabulous mouthfulls for each diner at the bar, every morsel a true oriental delight. Sushi Yasuda is probably still the best Japanese restaurant in New York but make sure you book well in advance.
