Goa - Susegado

The Russians love Goa.

The Russians also love wine – very expensive French wine.

Anyone browsing the wine list at Susegado, in the normal Russian manner of starting at the end and working up, will not be disappointed.

The beach restaurant of Leela Resort caters for all and the holidaying Oligarchs will no doubt be delighted to see a ‘94 Chateau Petrus on offer at a mere 124,995 rupees.  That’s roughly US$2600.

Should that be a little too extravagant to accompany some lunchtime lobster, there is always the Hermitage la Chapelle ‘95 at 19,995 rupees. We settled for a South African Nederburg Chardonnay at a (relatively) modest 2495 rupees.

Susegado sits on the edge of the beach and is, actually, a very appealing lunchtime venue.  The food is good, and fairly priced.  Starters range from around 245 rupees to 345 rupees.  Mains are around 750 rupees and fresh fish is ‘market price’. However, the 'Fisherman's Catch', an assortment of fresh fish and seafood, is excellent and fairly priced at 995 rupees.  It's also huge so make sure you're hungry or share it.

Close by is the less salubrious, but excellent, Fisherman’s Wharf which, together with Susegado, sorts out the problem of at least two lunches whilst you're in the area.

Whilst in South Goa, try Zeebop and Martin's Corner.  We didn't make it to either but they were recommended by others.
