Singapore - Four Seasons

Spring 2007
Frank's view

Despite being located just off Orchard Road, close to all the prestige stores such as Prada, Gucci etc, the Four Seasons is primarily a luxury hotel for business travellers. The major tourist hotels, including Raffles are in a different part of town closer to the beach and coast.

This hotel is a good option if you are in Singapore on business. It has excellent business facilities and the staff are incredibly efficient (in that Singaporean type way).  Within minutes of checking in it seems as if all the hotel staff (even the ones you haven’t encountered) know your name.

The rooms are a good size but furnished as Four Seasons rooms.  If you have stayed in a Four Seasons hotel you will know what I mean.  There are no surprises and if you are looking for a temporary home to instantly slot into, this is it.  You know exactly what you are in for.

A number of local business people seem to use the hotel bar and restaurant for meetings.  Breakfast is a buffet offering a range of European and Asian dishes.  If you are prepared to queue and wait a chef will cook eggs to your liking.

Drinks at the bar are not a bargain.  It is frighteningly easy to run up a tab almost as much as your nightly room rate whilst hosting an early evening meeting in the hotel bar.

The Four Seasons has two pools, one by the Spa and the other on the roof.  The Spa seems to be kept busy by wives of men in the hotel on business.

In summary, this is a safe hotel.  It is very efficiently run and very much geared to the business traveller, in particular, those travelling with wives, who must be perpetually torn between shopping and the treatment rooms.
