Santa Monica - Shutters on the Beach

Summer 2007
Frank's view

Shutters on the Beach is a “flat U” shaped hotel (if you know what I mean). The best luxury rooms are without doubt, the ones at the flat part of the U which face the ocean. Definitely ask for one of these when you book.

The rooms are open-plan bedroom/bathrooms with shutters dividing the bath from the bed.  The rooms are beautifully furnished and the view from the rooms facing the ocean is great.

The pool deck sits in the middle of hotel.  We were there on an unusually hot February day and had the pool deck to ourselves.

There is one flaw with Shutters if you are a hotel guest.

The hotel is very popular with the locals as a dining venue.  At breakfast and lunch the place was packed full with local business people.  We were fortunate to secure a table on the terrace for lunch but this was because we were early.  We were unable to book a table for dinner as the restaurant was full and were directed to the hotel restaurant next door, which was not particularly good.

We’d always stay at Shutters in Santa Monica, but its probably best to visit when you’re dieting.
