The sign on reception says ‘No ties’
This is either a place for swingers or another trendy venue from Nick Jones and the Soho House team.
The entrance is on Ebor Street, a tiny back street just a convenient few minutes from Liverpool Street. The reception area has the feel of an office building. It’s probably a novelty for the many thirty somethings’, packed into the small reception seating area, to be visiting a building such as this for a drink rather than that next big deal. Perhaps many are celebrating the deal and accompanying ‘city’ bonus?
Two lifts whisk members to the fifth floor, the epicentre of the club. On this occasion, one of the lifts was out of order which goes some way to explaining the heaving reception area.
Shoreditch House is almost a clone of Soho House, New York. Both are converted warehouses which retain the character of the buildings’ former history and both have rooftop swimming pools. One difference from New York is the large indoor bar by the swimming pool which is particularly popular with smokers who buy a drink then sit outside by the pool, admiring the stunning view across the city.
The food is cheap. You will struggle to spend over £10, but it's all pizzas, stews and the like. It's very good, but not flashy.
The only downside of Shoreditch House is getting in. Membership is hard to secure, and unless you have ‘Every House’ membership, being a member of another Soho House establishment will not give you access to this one.
If you're not a member but know someone who is, it's time they bought you lunch.
