Naples - Ristorante Radici

Spring 2007
Frank's view

Across the usual main road from the sea front, this “Neapolitan Chic” restaurant is wonderfully understated.  White linen and wood.

Our starter of tuna, sea bass and prawn carpaccio lacked something.  Although there was a smattering of fresh red currants, there was no individual statement by the chef to make this dish his own.  He simply served the raw produce, no sauce or accompaniment, which was needed to lift the dish. However the price at 15 euros was reasonable.

The main courses were delicious and the presentation superb.  Layered sea bass with artichoke or four fillets of red mullet.  Not too much of it and again, very reasonable prices: 25 to 28 Euros for the main course.  The dessert was also very good.

The only disappointment of the evening was that, as we ate early, the restaurant was empty when we arrived.  A group of three entered the restaurant shortly after us and were seated at the next table.  They were loud and their conversation intrusive.  There was no need to seat them directly beside us other than to make the restaurant seem busy to anyone looking through the window.  Restaurants should not do this.  Restaurants should consider their paying guest rather than their own “window dressing”.

The restaurant is located close to the main “upmarket” shopping area of Naples (Prada, Gucci etc) and is worth a visit.
