Miami - News Cafe

Summer 2007
Frank's view

“A café is a hangout where anyone can sit for as long as they want, sipping only a glass of wine, whilst listening to music or engaging in the simple daily ritual of leisurely reading the newspaper over a cup of coffee or tea and a bagel or croissant.”

These words appear on the menu of the News café, which hit international news headlines in July 1997.  Gianni Versace was strolling back to his mansion, having enjoyed breakfast at the News Café, when he was gunned down by a stalker on the steps of his home.

Whilst other cafes, bars and restaurants along South Beach push their staff onto the street to drive tourists into their establishments, (incidentally, using cling film covered meals as a sales tool – yuck!), News Café has people queuing on the street, waiting for a table.

Open 24 hours, 7 days a week, the News Café is a South Beach institution and really is worth a visit.

The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Take a look at the web site.  It even has a live web cam.
