Malta - Intercontinental Hotel

Frank's view
'staggering misrepresentation'
This camel is about to break a fundamental rule.
I am about to write about a hotel in which I have not stayed, and have no intention of staying.
The Intercontinental, Malta is in the most staggeringly appalling position imaginable. (See photos below).
Whilst the Hilton, Westin and the Corinthia hotels all have seafront positions, the Intercontinental is wedged between scruffy high buildings in the heart of Malta’s downmarket bar area.
You might be lucky to achieve a ‘very partial’ sea view from your room, but you are more likely to look across at a shopping centre or The Hard Rock Café.
The pool / sunbathing area is vast but on the hotel roof, with perfect views of the buildings around you.
Inside the lobby, the swirling blue carpet is long overdue for replacement, and the ambience is far removed from the elegant, modern contemporary design, as described on the hotel’s web site.
We visited the Beach Bar (a few hundred metres away by the sea) just before 4pm, to enjoy a late afternoon drink whilst watching the sun go down. The waiter informed us that the bar was closed for an hour, although he declined to indicate if the hour was just beginning, part way through, or ending. The sun disappeared from view just before 5pm.
Perhaps vampire tendencies are a pre requisite?
I have no idea what the rooms are like but I would not stay at the Intercontinental purely because of its position.
I do wonder how many guests check in each day, and look enviously at the sea views of the other hotels.
