Lake Maggiore - Ristorante Casabella

Spring 2007
Frank's view

There are three Borromeo Islands, Madre, Bella and Pescatori.  Madre and Bella had palaces built on them in 1632 and are well worth visiting.  Pescatori is the oldest island and has the restaurants.

Hotel Des Iles Borromees in Stresa (where we were staying) recommended Ristorante Casabella on Pescatori as a good place for lunch.

The restaurant is situated by the ferry pier and the terrace has great views across the lake to the mainland.  The location is also handy for judging when to make a move for the next ferry as you have a perfect view of the ferry movements.

The food is simple and inexpensive.  The figs were fabulous and grown in the owner’s garden.

Casabella is a great venue to sit on the terrace for a relaxed lunch on a hot day, but not a restaurant for a chilly or wet day.  Inside tables were not a good option.
