Sydney - Icebergs

'Book for lunch'
Bondi Beach has always underwhelmed me.
On my first visit in the late 1980s, I expected stunningly idyllic, coconut tree speckled, white sand. Occasionally Ursula Andres would emerge, in breaks between the Hawaii Five-0 style waves, escorted by unfeasibly Adonis like hunks, coasting the surf.
Bondi reminded me of Scarborough, the Yorkshire seaside resort.
An esplanade, of which any Victorian saucy postcard town would be proud, lined with drab buildings.
The surfers were there, in amongst the hoards of day-trippers, beach bums and silicone.
Icebergs is all about location. The food (Italian inspired) is good, but there is better in Sydney.
Perched to the right, above Bondi, Icebergs has a great position which pulls in the crowds. Diners crave the beach view tables by the floor to ceiling windows. Even better, is to have a table on the terrace at lunchtime.
The tables are tight together, so don’t look for privacy.
If you’re visiting Sydney for the first time, it’s well worth a trip to Bondi, and there is nowhere better to view the beach antics than Icebergs.
