Malibu - Geoffrey's

Winter 07/08

'Time when you dine with the sunset'

 “You’re going to love it!”

This was the patronising chorus with which all (hotel concierge, driver, maid, meter maid, laundry lady…) rapturously congratulated us the day we planned to dine at Geoffrey’s.

It was not a warm day and yet the terraces at Geoffrey’s were packed full of sweater sporting enthusiasts and patio heaters.   In fairness, you could see why, looking out across the Pacific.  It really was a great place to while away the hours.  And we did, although the food was very mediocre.

Tuna with wasabi mashed potato was swimming in soya sauce.  The tuna was so sinewy the camel’s companion couldn’t cut it.  The restaurant knocked it off the bill, but that wasn’t the point.

The diverse menu included Roasted Corn Chowder with Blue Crab, Southwest Barbequed Chicken, and Paella.   The Paella was okay but nothing to chorus rapturously about.

If you do visit Geoffrey’s, dine mid to late afternoon. The sunset is stunning.
