Beijing - China World Hotel
Summer 2007
Frank's view
'A good alternative to the top end hotels.'
Situated within Beijing’s business district is the Shangri’la China World Hotel.
Although not located close to the major luxury hotels in Beijing, it is nevertheless only a short taxi ride away from the city centre.
The China World is clearly targeted at the business traveller and, as is the norm with these hotels, it is worth paying a little more for a room on the Horizon Club floor. Access to the lounge for meetings is invaluable in places such as Beijing where you really want to persuade people to come to you. Complimentary breakfast, drinks and early evening canapés can act as a good enticement to lure local business contacts.
This camel tries to get in and out of places such as Beijing in a couple of days if possible, often only leaving the hotel in the evening for a little local hospitality, after having crammed wall to wall meetings in the Horizon lounge.
(On one occasion, before they kicked out Starbucks, I did wander round the Forbidden City, listening to Roger Moore’s commentary. Who would have believed it…Bond in Beijing).
The China World has very good and unusual facilities. Have you ever visited a hotel which offers colonic irrigation as an ‘in house’ Spa treatment?
I haven’t.
