Eze Village - Le Chevre D'Or

' Chateau Eza '

This Relais & Chateau luxury hotel has a huge reputation.

We are fans of Chateau Eza but decided to give La Chevre D’Or a go.

La Chevre D’Or is more expensive than Chateau Eza - considerably more - when a like-for-like comparison is made.  Our junior suite was in the same price bracket (around 750 euros) as a suite at Chateau Eza.  The Eza suite was a good size with a private terrace and fabulous views.  The Chevre D’Or junior suite was tucked away under the hotel with a cramped seating area by a large sliding window, a view of trees and a glimpse of the sea in the background.

The bathroom was tiny with a pink bathroom suite... the awful 70’s relic people remove from houses in this day and age.

It was like living in a cave with no light.

The restaurant is ludicrously expensive.

The hotel has a lovely terrace for alfresco dining and cocktails.  The bar is particularly keen to sell its “Caviar and Champagne” treat for 148 euros.  This is Imperial Baeri Caviar accompanied by a glass of Dom Perignon 1999.  We watched as a Japanese tourist and his wife, who clearly spoke no French and little English, were “sold” this package by an enthusiastic waiter!  The caviar is presented together with two thimble size champagne glasses which are dampened with Vintage Dom Perignon.

If you would like to experience Relais & Chateau at its most expensive and pompous, give this one a go. Otherwise, go to Chateua Eza.
