Biot - Galerie Des Arcades

'a simple lunchtime back street escape'
At the far end of the village of Biot, on a quiet street to the right of the main thoroughfare, is Galerie Des Arcades.
The tables are spaced between a series of arches, which has the benefit of providing seclusion and privacy. You have your own mini restaurant with a view onto the quiet street and ancient buildings, with fabulous shutters, opposite.
The major selling point of Galerie Des Arcades is the ability to escape from the hustle and bustle of the village. If your preference is to watch the world go by, stay in the centre.
The menu is simple and typically French. Melon Jambon or Salad Nicoise (without tuna) to start, both €12 each.
Main courses are €16. I chose fish of the day and the camel’s companion had a plate of sardines, which she said were slightly over fried.
A bottle of Rose, selected by our waiter, was €23. The service was very attentive and friendly, and although the restaurant was busy, it didn’t feel so, because of the arch arrangement.
The lunchtime tables face directly towards the sun and we found ourselves moving back into the alcove as the heat began to further fry the sardines. Fortunately additional ice was rapidly delivered to maintain the chill of the Rose.
