Los Angeles - Chateau Marmont

Winter 07/08
Frank's view
'A great way to check out the legendary Hollywood hotel.'

The garden at Chateau Marmont is a quiet oasis, sheltered from the racket of Sunset Boulevard below, by trees and shrubs.  It is hard to believe, sitting in the garden, looking to the cloisters around the chateau, and up to the landmark turrets, that you are in the heart of West Hollywood.

The lunchtime menu is similar to many other menus in Beverly Hills and Hollywood, as are the prices:

  -  Chicken Caesar Salad at $17.50

  -  Poached shrimp and citrus salad ($18)

The food is good but the real reason to eat here is the ambience.

The dinner menu is, as expected, more comprehensive, and includes;

  -   Scallops ($32)

  -  Potato crusted Halibut, roasted tomatoes, spinach and pine nuts ($32)

  -  Lamb osso bucco, meyer lemon risotto ($33)

  -  Spaghetti Bolognaise ($20)

Dinner is quiet and sedate in the Chateau but a more lively option is to dine in Bar Marmont, just along the road from the hotel.

If you’re not staying at Chateau Marmont but are curious of its notoriety, dining is a good option to have a look around and check it out.
