Turn towards the river from Boulevard Saint Germain and walk for a few minutes along rue de l’Eperon until you reach the junction with rue Saint-Andre-des-Arts.
Wrapped around the corner of the two streets is the ‘Lilliputian’ Restaurant Allard.
Squeeze behind a table onto the stretch banquette, which frames the small dining room. It is almost impossible to avoid a conversation with your neighbours in this warm, friendly Parisian salon.
As is the usual French way, there is a set menu (€34 for three courses) and an a la carte selection. The set menu offers a choice of entrée, including Terrine du chef, 6 escargots de Bourgogne and Salade de Haricots Verts et Magrets de Canard Fumes.
The plat du jour, the day we visited, was Navarin d’Agneau, but there were other choices including Salmon Grille Beuree Blanc and Confit de canard.
The a la carte menu is comprehensive and much more expensive, Sole Meuniere (€39), Filet de Boeuf “Allard” (€37), Cote de Veau Forestiere (€34), being three examples.
Typical wines included Sancerre at €34 and Haut Medoc (€30).
If you are looking for an authentic, excellent Parisian dining experience, Restaurant Allard absolutely fits the bill. The food is very good and the ambience, classic ‘Saint Germain’
