Malta - 22

Winter 07/08
Frank's view
'there's no competition'

It has to be said that sophistication and Malta are not natural companions.

However, the little island is trying and has actually dared to build a skyscraper, well a skyscraper by Mediterranean standards.

The 22 floor Portomaso Tower, close to the Hilton Hotel, is essentially an office block by day, but at night it all changes.

Take the lift to the 22nd floor and (funnily enough) a bar called ‘22’.

It’s sophisticated, cool and has a lot of glass providing views of the island.

Beware, however. in peak season I suspect it becomes a sardine can, but there again, what cool bar doesn’t?
